Web Development & Digital Strategy

Exercise Right UK - From Static Website to Scalable SEO Platform

Replaced a restrictive build with a scalable WordPress platform

Structured the site around SEO, user journeys, and trust signals

Delivered a system designed for ongoing growth, not just launch

Overview

Exercise Right UK – London health and fitness experts – approached this project with a website that limited growth, rather than supporting it. The site was built by an inexperienced developer who didn’t provide a handover to the client, so they were unable to make the necessary changes themselves without it eating into their time.

As a start-up, that’s akin to burning progress. As a two-pager, the site lacked the structure needed for search visibility or user engagement. The goal was to recreate the website 1-to-1, but quickly became something more. Instead, I created a platform that could support long-term growth, content expansion, brand confidence, and streamline digital strategy in a way that provided true scalability when it’s needed.

The Problem - A Site That Couldn’t Scale

The original website had one core problem – it wasn’t built with scalability in mind.

It acted more as a one-page + contact, helping the business have a digital presence during their starting months. This, however, unfortunately meant:

  • There was no depth for SEO or a user journey
  • A poorly implemented Webflow build made updates time-consuming
  • No clear structure for additional services, content, or future pages
  • Limited confidence in brand credibility, especially when promoting or scaling the site

The website, in essence, had become a bottleneck.

The Strategy - Build for Long-Term Growth, Not Just Launch

Rather than making incremental improvements, I decided to do a full rebuild.

Fortunately, communication with the client was clear from the outset, and I was given full confidence to direct the process as needed. I’d love to say the plan was to craft a 30+ page website from the get-go, but this endpoint developed naturally as the client and I discussed what would be needed, what they would benefit from, and more.

As such, I spent significant time prior to building creating a plan, which involved:

  • Migrating from Webflow to WordPress to improve flexibility, design, and ease of management. This also provided easier access to plugins, which the client needed
  • Designing a structured website from the outset, with logical expansion points already baked in. This ended up being 30+ pages
  • Mapping user journeys across services, educational content, trust signals, and locations
  • Building a clear internal linking system to guide users through key touchpoints
  • Structuring the site around E-E-A-T and YMYL principles to support credibility. A necessary step given some of the clients’ services.

Since this was built within the first two months of the client’s business, creating an asset that would continue to perform as the business grew was vital.

The Build - What Was Actually Delivered

Other than rebuilding the website in WordPress, what was actually included?

Complete Guidance on Setup & Integration

My philosophy on web development is that the client should always understand what is being done and why. A large part of that is the set-up process. As part of this migration, I helped guide the client on hosting and WordPress setup, the implementation of core plugins (which required accounts), and the integration of core SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, and Google My Business.

Content Alignment with User Intent & Search Opportunities

Service pages were structured to capture search intent and support the user journey. This involved crafting a simple layout that allowed for all necessary information while remaining streamlined for easier use. Supplementary content was then included within detailed FAQs to enhance on-page value.

A Clear Internal Linking Framework & Customer Journey

A strategic linking framework baked into the build allows for obvious next-step call-to-action buttons to be placed throughout pages. It also ensures a smooth customer journey and content relevance. As a result, there are no hard-to-access pages, and users can find what they need with minimal resistance.

Content Direction For Blog Development

A blog and blog template were included in the build, allowing the client to continue expanding the site's content and supporting their services through blog posts. I provided initial direction on what content to publish by conducting in-depth keyword research. This also included multiple Google Docs containing full post outlines to make the writing process even easier.

The Outcome - A Platform Built for Growth

The proof is in the pudding, as they say. The best way to see the outcome is to visit the site yourself.

That said, some under-the-hood benefits:

  • The client can now easily manage and update the site without technical barriers or less-than-ideal dev coding preventing quick changes
  • Back-end organisation makes finding pages and content quick and easy
  • Minimal plugin use keeps the site fast while providing necessary functions (chatbot, for example)
  • The client can promote their website with confidence across ads and marketing channels, knowing that it reflects who they are and what they do
  • The site is poised for continued growth, helping to maintain a consistent and professional brand presence and scalability without future rebuilds

Strategic Insight

More often than not, I’m asked by new business owners, “how do I get traffic?”, when the question ought to be “How can I build a foundation for growth?”

It sounds like a classic “buzz-word” phrase, but it’s a fact: trying to scale without a solid foundation will, at some point, cause a collapse and bottleneck. Fortunately, Exercise Right UK caught it early and I ensured that their foundation was air-tight and ready for their business to take off.

By focusing on structure and long-term usability from the get-go, this project helped avoid repeated rebuilds and saved countless hours of frustrating back-end changes. Now, their website stands as their brand hub, ready to expand and welcome users curious about their London fitness and health offering.
