My Approach To Content Development

Step 1

Discovery & Briefing

We'll start by understanding your goals, audience and intended outcome. From there, we can ensure the content brief aligns with your broader marketing objectives. This may also include reflection on the purpose of the asset you want to create, and optimising where needed. 

Step 2

Research & Planning

From there, I'll conduct independent research on competitors, tone, and messaging to establish structure and creative direction before working on any material. The extent of this depends on what content you want developing.

Step 3

Content Creation

Once the pieces are in place, I'll begin drafting, editing, and refining the specific asset. From eBooks and webpages to emails, ad copy, guides, and more. I'll manage each with precision and consistency.

Step 4

Delivery & Optimisation

Once an asset is finalised, I'll proof the content and prepare it for publishing. If needed, I can complete rounds of revisions to further optimise for your needs. Finally, I'll advise on best practices for integration or promotion, where needed.

What Types of Content Can You Create?

I can create a wide range of marketing assets. These can include but are not limited to:

Pretty much anything you can think of that needs writing, excluding industry specific content, such as those in the medical field.

Do You Handle Design as Well as Copywriting?

I don’t handle design directly, as, quick frankly, I’m awful at designing things myself. 

I can, however, collaborate with designers or provide design direction, depending on your needs. 

I also have my own contacts in the design space, which can benefit projects that require something more custom. 

Can You Help Refine My Ideas Before We Begin?

100%. I’ll often ask a series of questions about what you want to create beforehand, which usually leads to a further discussion about refinement.

Part of my process includes shaping raw concepts into a structured outline. More often than not, an initial idea alters shape after a conversation with someone who wasn’t part of its initial conception.

What if I Only Need Small Pieces of Content, Like Ad Copy or Short Emails?

No problem. Smaller projects can be completed as one-off’s or on a recurring basis.

How Do You Ensure the Content Matches Our Tone of Voice?

I’ve had extensive experience working with brands of all types, industries and tones. 

Before creating anything, I review any existing material you have and your brand guidelines to ensure the tone, vocabulary, and messaging all align. 

Do You Optimise the Content for SEO?

Where possible. The extent of SEO optimisation drastically depends on the project as a whole and our agreement. 

If we’re working on content that relies on this for best practices, such as website copy or long-form site assets, I’ll usually suggest blending the content development with a small SEO package to ensure you get the best results. 

If you already have someone working on your SEO who can provide the necessary keywords and SEO info, I can incorporate that into the content, no problem.

What’s the Turnaround Time for Most Projects?

Timelines are very dependent on the project scope. 

Small assets could be completed within a few days, while larger-scale assets may take more than two to three weeks. 

If you have an idea in mind but need exact timelines, feel free to drop me a message, and I can give you my best estimate.

Do You Offer Revisions?

All projects include at least one round of revisions, with more being available as bolt-ons to the final cost where needed.

That said, I’m generally flexible with revisions. I rarely treat small changes as revisions. 

A revision, to me, is a substantial change in relation to the brief or the incorporation of a new idea into an almost-final product.
