Overview

Most SEO projects tend to focus on improving rankings. This one built a system that scaled them.

Between July 2024 and July 2025, I led The Body Lab’s digital growth and turned their sporadically visible, local brand into a consistently discoverable authority across Kensington and London.

Over this period, keyword visibility increased by 218%, top-three rankings grew by 400%, and the business began appearing across AI overviews and key SERP features. Simultaneously, service pages help dominate local positions for Kensington, and blog content became a major driver of new discovery.

This case study breaks down my approach and how aligning SEO, content, and user experience created compounding growth, rather than isolated short-term wins.

The Starting Point

When I became more directly involved in mid-2024, The Body Lab already had some local visibility, particularly for their long-standing core Kensington services. However, their keyword footprint was relatively limited, and growth wasn’t being driven by a clearly defined content or SEO system.

Service pages had the necessary information but weren’t fully optimised to capture high-intent local searches, nor was there a top-down content strategy in place to further support content clustering.

At this point, the core opportunity was to introduce structure, direction, and consistency across all digital channels.

Taking Full Control of Growth Channels

From July to November, I worked to build a strategic system that placed service pages at the forefront of our content strategy.

Then, in November, my role on this project evolved into taking direct control over all key digital growth channels. This created alignment across SEO, content, user experience, and broader marketing activity.

This included:

  • Full SEO strategy and execution
  • Website restructuring and development changes
  • Weekly blog content creation and planning
  • Internal linking strategy and content clustering
  • Email marketing and campaign direction
  • Ad management
  • Google Business Profile management
  • Biweekly strategy calls with the client team

This responsibility meant all channels supported the same growth objectives.

Strategy & Implementation

Rather than treating SEO as a standalone task, I focused on building a system that enabled all key growth metrics to scale together.

Building a Content Engine That Drives Authority

Structuring content around key service areas and clusters allowed each article to support and strengthen pages that drive enquiries. The introduction of a weekly posting schedule also ensured blog topics aligned with commercial relevance and could expand keyword coverage.

Overhauling Service Pages For Local Dominance

All core service pages were rewritten and restructured with an optimised layout to better target high-intent local searches and improve usability. Refined keyword targeting was also included, and as a result of these optimisations, the business consistently achieved top 1-3 ranking for key service + location terms.

Improving User Experience & Conversion

Through tools like Microsoft Clarity, I analysed user behaviour to identify drop-off points and key friction areas across the site. These insights informed layout and content changes and improvements to the booking journey, including a heavy focus on direct communication via WhatsApp. Improvements to Mindbody's booking system were also made through communication with the MBO team to improve conversions.

Strengthening Site Structure and Technical Foundations

Site navigation was restructured, including an overhaul of the main navigation and complete optimisation of internal linking and overall crawlability. This created a foundation where new content could gain traction faster, blogs and other supporting pages were adequately linked to, and existing pages could continue to strengthen over time.

Results - Organic Keywords & UK Search Growth

Organic Keywords
The Body Lab's Organic UK Keyword Growth. July 2024 - Oct 2025 (Tap to View)

The most meaningful growth occurred within UK Search, as the primary objective was to strengthen local relevancy and visibility for Kensington-related search terms.

Between July 2024 and July 2025:

  • Total tracked keywords increased from 316 to 1,004 (+218%)
  • Top 3 rankings grew from 7 to 35 (+400%)
  • Page 1 visibility expanded significantly across service and informational queries
  • The site began appearing in AI Overviews and over 250 additional SERP features

This growth reflects a broad improvement across all ranking tiers, highlighting the strategy’s effectiveness in driving consistent movement across our entire keyword footprint, not just isolated wins.

Local Google Business Profile Growth

Alongside the website’s organic growth, local visibility through Google My Business Profile (GMB) saw a significant increase in total views, primarily via local map pack positions.

Between January and May:

  • Profile views increased from 6,000 to 30,725 (+412%)
  • Over 26,000 of these views came directly from Google Maps
  • Search discovery increased by over 230%

Importantly, this growth wasn’t isolated. It aligned with improved service page rankings and stronger keyword positionings.

It’s also worth noting that complete data couldn’t be retrieved for this time frame. With a week left in May, these results were likely higher than is shown.

Content Strategy & Impact on Growth

TBL Top Pages

Another notable outcome was the role blog content played in driving impressions.

Created blog content, followed a few set rules:

  • Each post needed to contribute to a service cluster
  • All posts were, at a minimum, 1000 words, unless there was a reason for them not to be
  • Posts that included research needed to include harvard-style citation
  • New posts were added into supporting channel marketing (email, etc)

These posts began ranking highly for our targeted competitive queries, with several reaching #1. These not only generated their own traffic but also supported service page performance through strong internal linking and topical reinforcement.

Our core service pages remained among the most-viewed and highest-performing pages, showing that these two elements were working together rather than competing.

Proof in Practice

A few examples of our content’s impact:

  • The blog post “What is floatation Therapy: Effects and Benefits”, as seen in the data above, was a post previously uploaded in early 2023. I overhauled this towards the end of 2024, in which it moved to position #1 for Floatation therapy terms. This directly supported our Float page, which maintained #1 local rankings and stayed as the top-performing service page on the site.
  • “Reformer vs Mat Pilates” consistently ranked in positions 1-3, and we also secured an AI Overview position, which, by all accounts, is a competitive keyword. This increased visibility and helped drive additional traffic to our Reformer Pilates page.
  • While not visible in data, newer service pages, such as “osteopathy” reached positions 1-3 for “Osteopathy Kensington” within the first month of launch. I would pair these launches with supporting content, such as “How often should you see an osteopath?”, to help establish greater topical relevance.

Build a System That Scales Your Visibility

These results weren’t driven by a single tactic, but by the combination of strategy, execution, trust, and alignment across channels.
